Today we’re going to see how you can finish off your knitted work using a crochet hook. This technique can be used to create an elastic edge on a garment. In today’s example, we’ll show you a video with a swatch knitted in stockinette stitch that we’ll use to show you the process step by step.

To do this you need to know:

· Slip stitch

Materials you’ll need:

Once you have a little time to spare and everything prepared, let’s go!

Step 1. Insert the hook into the first stitch and pass the yarn through the stitch on the needle.

Yarn over and draw the yarn through the loop on the hook.

Insert into hook again into the same stitch, pass the yarn through the stitch and the loop on the hook.

Then slide the stitch off the left needle.

Step 2. Insert the hook into the next stitch, pass the yarn through the stitch and the loop on your hook.

Once again, insert the hook into the same stitch, pass the yarn through the stitch and the loop on your hook.

If you look, you’ll see that you’ve made two single crochets into the same stitch.

Slide the stitch off the left needle.

Repeat these steps until you’ve cast off all the stitches.

As you can see, it’s as easy as working slip stitches, and for you, casting off stitches with a crochet hook is no longer mysterious. In this fashion, you’ve now got another technique to practice on your garments.

As we always say, try it and share your work with us using #WeAreKnitters.
